Summary
Reporting to the Vice Pres i dent for Business & Finance / CFO, the Director of Campus and Public Safety is responsible for the comprehensive operations of the College's Campus and Public Safety Department. The Director will provide leadership which includes administrative and operational guidance for 24-hour / 365 days a year department, including direction and supervision of officers, patrol, and dispatch personnel. The Director collaborates with others at the College and serves as a primary resource and advisor to the College on matters related to campus safety and security and i nstitutional risk management as it relates to safety and security.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead a team comprised of eight-armed, Campus Sworn Police Officers , including a Lieutenant and Sergeant, as well as one office manager.
- Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates all Campus and Public Safety Department activities, ensuring compliance with all laws and local ordinances and adherence to campus policies and procedures.
- Develops, implements and monitors the effectiveness of campus safety and security policies and procedures .
- Develops, implements, and monitors the effectiveness of internal departmental policies .
- Chairs the College Safety Committee and reports issues to the CFO & other members of the College's administration.
- Prepares and administers the departmental budget; and plans and implements security operations and programs and initiatives in support of the College's mission and vision.
- Utilizes a strong community-policing the Director works proactively and cooperatively with students and all other internal and external constituents to promote a safe and secure campus environment.
- Prepares and reports crime statistics and ensures com plete compliance with the Clery Act and the PA Uniform Crime Reporting Act.
- Directs and participates as needed with criminal investigations , crime prevention, community relations, special events, and security functions.
- Keeps abreast of safety / security and legal issues impacting higher education ; develops tools, programs and procedures to meet changing physical, legal and personnel conditions at the College ; and maintains all records relative to security.
- Actively participates in crisis management situations .
- Takes an active role on the College Emergency Response Team and manages and participates in emergency drills.
- Works with the Vice President Business & Finance / CFO in drafting, updating and implementing the College Emergency Response Plan.
- Fosters and maintains positive working re lationship with the Washington and East Washington Police and Fire Departments, and other commun ity organizations.
