Summary

Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) at Washington & Jefferson College are student-centered professional staff members within the Office of Residence Life that are responsible for fostering a supportive, inclusive, and learning focused experience within campus residence halls. Residence Life Coordinators report to the Director of Residence Life and work collaboratively to achieve a wide range of departmental, divisional, and institutional goals through direct service to students living on campus.

Residence Life Coordinators for First-Year Student Success are uniquely positioned to have a positive impact on the experience of first-year students at Washington & Jefferson College. The primary focus of this position is an intentional connection to students as they transition to campus through the residential experience and collaboration with a wide range of college initiatives, resources, and support systems.

This is an in-person, full-time, 12-month, live-in position. Duties & Responsibilities

Residence Life Coordinators are responsible for the following core duties at Washington & Jefferson College :

  • Oversees the daily housing operation of campus residence halls within a defined area of campus.
  • Provides leadership to and facilitates major campus housing initiatives including move-in, winter hall closing, spring semester hall opening, and end of the academic year closing.
  • Supervises and trains a staff of Resident Assistants (RA) with a primary focus on ensuring that each RA is connected to every member of their respective residential community.
  • Implements the Residential Learning & Engagement Framework within the defined campus housing area and through department wide programs.
  • Provides a high level of direct support to students and collaborates with faculty and staff to make appropriate referrals while using appropriate communication and documentation tools (Prez Pathways, Maxient, CARE team referral).
  • Facilitates weekly RA staff team and one-to-one meetings.
  • Serves as a member of the Administrator On-Call team that responds to urgent and emergency student needs on campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additionally, this professional staff member works to intentionally support the transition of first-year students living on campus at Washington & Jefferson College through :

  • Proactive engagement with students by facilitating regular and intentional interactions during their first year living on campus.
  • Promoting skill development through one to one and small group meetings that focus on learning strategies, problem solving, and critical thinking.
  • Supporting programs through the Washington & Jefferson College First Year Experience.
  • Working collaboratively with faculty advisors to facilitate academic planning for first year students.
  • Service and active membership on Washington & Jefferson College's First Year Student Support Group.
  • Collaboration with a broad range of campus partners to support first-year students as they transition to Washington & Jefferson college through Pre-orientation programming, New Student Orientation, and focused academic and career development for first-year students.
  • Work within the college's Residential Learning & Engagement Framework by developing specific strategies that proactively and responsively meet the holistic needs of first-year students.
  • Qualifications

    Education & Professional Experience

  • A master's degree in Higher EducationAdministration, College Student Development, Counseling, Education, or a closely related field is required.
  • 1 year of experience working in a full-time professional live-in / on role within college / university housing is highly preferred. Alternatively, 2 years of Graduate Assistant experience and / or undergraduate resident assistant experience.
  • Core Competencies

  • Proven ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and administer work in the face of competing commitments.
  • A true commitment to working as part of a supportive and collaborative Residence Life team.
  • Supervisory Duties

    The Residence Life Coordinator for First-Year Student Success position is responsible for the supervision of paraprofessional staff (Resident Assistants).
