Job Summary
The Architectural Interior Designer develops and produces construction documents using the latest versions of AutoCAD and REVIT. The incumbent plans, directs, implements, and supervises the interior architectural design components of reports, designs, or construction projects, and develops construction documents, including but not limited to interior plans, specifications, and approval of finish materials. Initiates and creates project designs and plans including preparation of presentation and design drawings using REVIT, Power Point, and AutoCAD methods. This incumbent will review and approve construction and design submittals under supervision of senior member of Architecture team. The incumbent will collaborate with others to develop and implement Occupancy Plans using their experience in Space Planning at the individual, functional, team and department level across multiple buildings and properties. The incumbent regularly informs supervisor of all project activities, status, and client interactions. Provides support to team members and excellent internal customer service to stakeholders from any (and all) WMATA departments as related to architectural assignments and interior design, space planning and office furniture specifications.

- In lieu of Bachelor¿s Degree, a High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years architectural field experience, in addition to the experience stated below, will be considered

Essential Functions
- Serves as project team lead for production of construction documents to be reviewed and when ready, stamped by Director Architecture. Project management duties for a range of multi-disciplinary in-house projects (valued from 5,000 to 1 million square feet). Coordinates with other WMATA departments and collaborates with WMATA engineering staff. Develops and produces construction documents using primarily REVIT or AutoCAD on legacy projects. Plans, directs and supervises the architectural production of construction drawings using REVIT for in house projects. Monitors and or develops the project work schedule, project plan or internal cost estimate to support Capital Delivery and Operations project implementation as needed by WMATA and ENGA.
- Develops and prepares presentation drawings for planning, schematic studies, preliminary designs, communication with end users and required drawing submittals using various software. Develops interior designs, space plans that comply with applicable codes, regulations, and WMATA¿s standard design criteria. Coordinates reviews and monitors construction estimates. Coordinates with local jurisdictional building departments to obtain building permits and code compliance and acts as task manager for various projects.
- Utilizes Occupancy Planning software and survey data to place/assign employees and contractors in administrative buildings on a seat by seat basis. Inputs relevant employee data, assigns and monitors desk reservation platform. Uses basic real estate measuring standards including Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), to identify space usage and space analysis reporting; track and identify employee head counts, space management and occupancy planning; and accurately assign desk reservations seats, offices, and relevant workstation data. Supports WMATA LAND, FAMO, ENGA and other departments as needed with research, analysis of real estate industry norms and trends, and makes recommendations to resolve constructability and design issues.
- Performs timely and accurate reviews of multi-disciplinary construction documents to ensure compliance with WMATA approved architectural, engineering, and furniture plans, Authority standards and applicable codes. Reviews contractors¿ shop drawings for compliance with contract drawings and specifications. Coordinates with other disciplines as necessary to manage quality control and assure deliverable is consistent with design intent and standards.
- Performs job-site inspections ranging from approval of initial prototypes and samples to final inspection and acceptance of Metrorail and Metrobus administrative office facilities, new construction and renovation projects. Identifies issues and investigates and analyzes field conditions to address building design, accessibility and safety. Devises solutions and prepares recommendations to correct issues. Assure accuracy in reporting both job and site conditions, as well as, incorporating actual field data into drawings to accurately update FM database, and to support, maintain and comply with ADA regulations and requirements on projects.
- Collaborates with WMATA engineering, construction, operational staff and consultants to formulate responses to problem statements and to conduct preliminary review of construction change orders (upon PRMT request). Prepares furniture specifications and plans in accordance with Authority Workplace Guidelines / Standards. Provides space planning and programming of requirements on in-house projects to ensure conflicts and errors are addressed early; to review compliance with applicable workplace standards; and to provide an additional level of review to control cost and issues of fairness in workspace assignments.
