MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or the possession of a high school equivalency certificate with three (3) years of experience in a maintenance (preferable elevator/escalator maintenance) environment. Inventory control, parts and material handling experience in a maintenance environment and delivery/logistics experience are required
LICENSE:
Possession of a valid District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia motor vehicle operator's license issued from jurisdiction of residence. Safe driving record with no more than four (4) points accumulated over the past three (3) years.
Possession of or the ability to obtain within 30 days a Fork Lift operator’s license.
Medical Group:
Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.
Mission Essential Designation:
In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
SUMMARY
This is material handling and parts distribution work. Employee in this class receives, controls, stores, and delivers parts, materials, and supplies used in the maintenance and repair of WMATA’s elevators and escalators. Employee is responsible for the movement of material and supplies from vendors or designated storerooms directly to the elevator or escalator at the rail station or non-revenue facilities. These materials and supplies include, but are not limited to, repairable equipment, stock items, precision measuring equipment, and non-hazardous liquids such as oils and grease.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Handles and transports a large variety of parts, materials, supplies throughout the region and ensures that appropriate documentation is accurately prepared for accountability, control, and processing. Accounts for the accuracy and timeliness of material and or part deliveries to work sites.
Stages and makes ready a large variety of materials for transport by un-boxing materials, banding equipment to pallets, and sorting and stacking parts and supplies. Surveys ELES Forward Supply Points to ensure compliance with WMATA/ ELES procedures and to account for items processed through the forward supply points.
Works closely with WMATA Storeroom clerks and vendors to coordinate the pick-up and delivery of a variety of parts, materials, and supplies. Ensure accuracy of orders placed and received. Participates in special projects, deliveries or pick-ups which may include coordination with other Offices for track rights, overhead cranes, and special lifts.
Completes associated paperwork to account for delivery and/or pick-up of materials, parts, and supplies. Updates open work-order tickets with the MOC and/or EOC as equipment is processed and made available on the work site.
Operates a variety of material handling equipment, forklifts, Authority-owned vehicles, and oil-recycling equipment.
