Summary
Job Description:T/Th/Fri Lead Preschool Teacher ( 3.5-5 year olds)
Teaching Hours: 8am-2pm Tuesday, Thursday with 16-18 students (with parent helper and co-lead or associate teacher) and815am-115pm Friday with6-8 students (in smaller classroom with just one teacher)
Start Date: Mid August 2025
Duties
Responsibilities:
•Plan and implement an age and developmentally appropriate play-based curriculum within the philosophy of WPELC. Please see Curriculum Framework for more details on our philosophy and approach.
•Plan a variety of first-hand experiences that will enhance and encourage children’s independence and social, emotional and cognitive development.
•Help children learn personal responsibility and respect for others and the world around them.
•Establish a predictable but flexible schedule and environment that allows children a balance of active and quiet play, providing smooth transitions between activities.
•Listen and respond to children at their level with the utilization of positive guidance techniques. Classroom management is caring and consistent.
•Take responsibility for organizing, setting up, and putting away materials and resources for the children’s activities before and after class.
•Observe, interact, and participate in activities with children.
•Utilize both the indoor and outdoor classroom spaces on a regular basis.
•Recognize different learning styles and abilities and incorporate that understanding into best teaching practices
•Follow the guidelines established by DHS to maintain a safe, clean, warm, caring, enriching, happy and healthy environment for children and adults alike inside the classroom and on the playground
•Keep accurate and necessary records and documentation for assessment
•Respond attentively to children’s medical needs
•Lift and carry 35-50 pounds as necessary.
•Attend workshops, classes, and professional development to work towards 15 hours for PDIS
•Share and communicate with parents on a regular basis. Supervise parents in the daily operation of the classroom.
•Prepare and conduct two Parent/Teacher conferences per school year for each student
•Attend parent meetings and extracurricular school-wide events
•Build a strong classroom community with all children and families with a cooperative approach when working with staff, children and families.
Requirements
Preferred qualifications:
•Degree in Early Childhood Education/Education
•At least two years’ experience in a lead teaching role in an ECE environment
•Familiarity with cooperative preschool philosophy and comfortable working within a cooperative model
•Experience developing and implementing age-appropriate, play-based curriculum
•Excellent communication skills with children and adults
•Energetic, enthusiastic and warm personality
•A desire to be a part of an inclusive, dynamic, reflective school community
Salary : $24 - $32
