Job Description
The Washington Post Business Desk is seeking an imaginative, collaborative and ambitious editor to lead visual storytelling about business, the economy and technology.
This editor collaborates with visual departments across the newsroom to produce both news stories and enterprise that is urgent, revelatory and innovative : data analysis and visualization, mapping, 3D modeling, animation, interactive graphics, writing, quizzes, drone capture and illustration. Collaboration is central to this role, as is an audience-first sensibility that prioritizes riveting presentation, personalized formats and interactive experiences.
Over the past two years, our visual enterprise editor has helped produce news-driven investigations, such as our reconstruction of a Tesla Autopilot crash and our deep look at the secret websites that power AI; some of our most important project work, such as a piece about marketing the AR-15 that was part of a package that won a Pulitzer Prize; and a wide array of informative and fun features, including the 12 charts that define the Biden and Trump economies and a quiz that deconstructs your work communication style.
Responsibilities
- Lead visually first news and enterprise coverage about business and tech across the staff
- Manage a visual enterprise reporter
- Drive ambition and experimentation in all our work
- Serve as key collaborator with visual and data departments across the organization
- Create opportunities for visual storytellers to gain new skills and grow
- Be audience-centric, especially in looking for opportunities for personalization
- Develop strategies to optimize workflows and tools
Qualifications
This job is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

The salary range for this position is : $122,500 - $204,100. The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
