Position Summary
The role of the Laboratory Assistant Director reports to the Directory of Laboratory. This position is responsible for overseeing personnel, performance of testing, quality management and regulatory compliance within the laboratory and directs the laboratory in the absence of the Director of Laboratory and Medical Director. This position will be responsible for managing testing processes and personnel as required to ensure regulatory compliance.
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor processes to identify potential problems and provide a proactive approach to ensure efficiency with processes and operations
- Assist with developing and implementing policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
- Partner with the laboratory leadership team to develop, implement, and provide education and training to staff
- Ensure accreditation, legal, and medical compliance are maintained and remain knowledgeable regarding accreditation guidelines and regulations at the local, state, and federal level
- Implement the laboratory’s quality management, safety and performance improvement plans, reviews proficiency testing results and supports method validation studies
- Provide oversight of staff scheduling to accomplish routine required tasks along with the unexpected tasks on a day-to-day basis
- Effectively manage department needs including equipment, PPE, and supplies
- Assist director with interviewing, hiring, and providing ongoing personnel evaluations
- Assist in monitoring budget related processes
- Assist with testing in the clinical departments, clerical, specimen processing and related tasks, as needed
- Demonstrate an understanding of and supports the philosophy of patient-centered care
- Remain available to all staff, seeking opportunities to become actively involved, lend support, address problems, and suggest areas of improvement
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science
- Licensure and Certifications: ASCP, AMT or equivalent certification, required.
- Experience: 2 years of medical laboratory leadership experience, required. Minimum 4 years of relevant medical laboratory experience and meets qualifications of a Technical Consultant in accordance with CLIA'88 regulations. Experience with regulatory compliance and accreditation standards of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Association for Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB), The Joint Commission (TJC) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), required.
Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment and 20% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. This position has exposure to body fluids and communicable diseases.
