What are the responsibilities and job description for the People and Culture Generalist position at Washington Spirit?
We’re looking for a People & Culture Generalist to join the Washington Spirit’s small & dynamic People & Culture team. Reporting to the Senior Director of People & Culture, this role will focus on learning & development, onboarding and offboarding, and HRIS administration, while contributing to broader initiatives and improvement of people operations, processes and programs.

The People and Culture Generalist will:
- Assist in updating personnel policies and procedures.
- Support in the onboarding and offboarding processes for the Washington Spirit staff, including administering onboarding and exit surveys.
- Manage and maintain the HCM system, Paycor, ensuring accurate data entry, reporting, and system optimization and providing support for employees and managers.
- Support the design, implementation, and administration of employee training and development programs.
- Assist with general administrative aspects of people operations including responding to employment verification requests and reviewing and revising department policies.
- Facilitate and further develop the onboarding process, including leading new hire orientation.
- Provide support in various talent acquisition efforts, from employer branding initiatives to developing and executing a structured hiring and interview process.
- Assist with People Analytics and reporting in several areas including turnover, DEI metrics, compensation, and benefits administration.
- Contribute to initiatives that foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture, including employee recognition, wellness, and engagement programs.
- Ensure HR policies and procedures align with best practices and legal requirements, while maintaining accurate records and generating reports as needed.
- Work closely with the Senior Director of People & Culture on various P&C initiatives and projects, providing hands-on support across all aspects of the employee lifecycle.
- Assist staff with People & Culture related inquiries.
The ideal candidate has:
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least two years of experience in People & Culture, Human Resources, Operations, or Recruiting.
- Experience in a fast-paced or high-growth environment; sports, entertainment, and media industries are preferred.
- A strong desire to grow in the People & Culture/People Operations field, with an interest in learning & development.
- Experience working on People & Culture projects in one or more of the following areas: employee experience, engagement, talent development, recruiting, onboarding, and compliance.
- Experience using an HCM or HRIS system.
- Strong judgement, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality.
- Technology-savvy with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems.
- Creative thinking and a continuous improvement mindset for self and organizational processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all levels of staff across the organization.
- A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multi-tasking environment.
- Exceptional MS Office suite skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
