Join our team as a Cook 2 at our newest behavioral health treatment campus at Maple Lane in Grand Mound, near Centralia, WA. We're hiring for on-call vacancies.

Behavioral Health Treatment Center Maple Lane offers innovative treatment for residents who are civilly committed, in need of competency restoration, or adjudicated not guilty by reason of mental diagnosis. Each residential unit helps shape the future of behavioral health, aligning with Washington State’s vision of community-based care. Treating residents in smaller facilities helps them stay closer to home, family, and support systems, fostering stronger community connections.

You'll create high-quality meals in large-scale food preparation kitchen. Put your culinary leadership talent to good use as part of our food service team. Maple Lane is a key business unit of DSHS's Behavioral Health Administration, where our dedicated staff offers residents enriching opportunities and experiences outside the hospital setting, preparing them for a smooth transition back into the community. This is a great opportunity to be a team member with our administration as we modernize and enhance behavioral health treatment in Washington State.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Evening shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate. When scheduled for on-call, you usually know your schedule a month in advance. Some of our on-call employees choose to work weekend hours, while others may be scheduled for up to full-time hours during their on-call weeks.

Some Of What You Will Do

  • Work under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor 2.
  • Assist in food service operations as designated by the supervisor and manager.
  • Prepare and cook food for patients.
  • Ensure all diets are correctly and safely prepared.
  • Assist in planning menus and maintaining food inventories.
  • Participate in cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas.
  • Manage the storage and usage of leftover ingredients and products.
  • Provide customer service in a behavioral health setting.

Who Should Apply Customer Service Professionals Who Maintain a Valid County Issued Food Handler’s Permit Within 15 Days Of Employment, Along With

  • Two years of cooking experience in large-scale food services or culinary operation.
  • Completion of course in large-scale cooking may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • Or, one year as a Cook 1 in State service.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Understanding of kitchen operations, standard kitchen appliances, and sanitation practices.
  • Leadership and versatility in a fast-paced environment.
