Join our team at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) on McNeil Island in the picturesque Puget Sound. We are a highly structured and secure treatment facility dedicated to assisting individuals who are detained and/or civilly committed in addressing their sexual offending histories.
We are looking for a customer service-oriented person who can quickly adapt to their environment, proactively manage safety and security situations, and effectively lead team members. Your crucial role will involve enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and statutory law. As an experienced security leader, who possesses the ability to train others in de-escalation techniques and employ non-physical interventions whenever possible, this may be the career for you.
At SCC, we value our employees and offer additional benefits. In addition to the advertised salary, our employees receive a $10 per day premium pay and a free Orca card for transportation use. Furthermore, ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees from the Steilacoom dock. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
Some Of What You Will Do
A valid certification as a basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher is required.

Some Of What You Will Do
- Oversee and support security staff in daily operations.
- Coordinate security activities, responses, and shift schedules.
- Transport residents in a secure vehicle to and from scheduled and emergency off island trips utilizing all equipment
- Supervise and conduct physical searches of the mainland dock and surrounding areas in Steilacoom and on McNeil Island
- Respond to emergencies and liaise with law enforcement and other agencies.
- Serves as a supervising security responder in the deployment of Security Guard 2 staff responding to resident escapes, medical emergencies, fires, riots, hostage takings, assaultive behavior, etc.
- Conducts investigations, related to safety and emergency response or as otherwise directed.
- Generate timely and accurate reports, to include incident reports, observation reports, and emergency response reports, as required
- Perform administrative tasks, including monthly check-ins and reports.
- High school diploma or GED required; and
- A minimum of 3 years' of experience in one or more of the following roles:
- Security guard
- Correctional officer
- Store investigator
- Police officer or reserve police officer
- Military police
- Other law enforcement positions; or
- 3 years of experience as a Security Guard 1 , or 2 years of experience as a Security Guard 2 .
- Completion of a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission
- Certification from a police academy, reserve police academy, or military training program
