We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team working at Western State Hospital .
As a member of the Facilities, Finance, and Analytics (FFA) team within our Maintenance and Operations Division , you will assist the maintenance shop in performing HVAC, plumbing, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, and repairs.
This position has a non-standard work schedule: 11:45pm – 8:15am Friday - Tuesday
Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some Of What You'll Do
- Preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as laundry and kitchen equipment; and air conditioning equipment
- Maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution
- Monitor safety, fire protection, and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition
- Respond to service requests and secure necessary assistance
- Take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment
- Work from plans, sketches, or drawings
- Estimate materials for completion of the job
- Must be able to perform the essential functions described in this announcement successfully
- Must be able to communicate with professional conduct and comprehend, through oral and written forms of communication, with management, peers, clients, and the public
- Dress appropriately for the work to be performed including wearing Personal Protective Equipment when necessary.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of mechanical trades, safety precautions, record keeping, and basic computer skills
- Those with a high school diploma/GED
- A valid driver's license
- At least 4 years of experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanical trade
