The Office of Professional Standards (OPS) provides oversight responsibility for the agency's complaint and disciplinary procedures. OPS is tasked with ensuring that the disciplinary process is conducted fairly, that all administrative investigations are complete, impartial, objective, and consistent, and that standardized discipline is imposed.

Duties

This position exists to fulfill important legal obligations, including those arising under the Public Records Act (PRA) and court rule. The position enhances transparency and public trust in the agency by efficiently, accurately, and timely processing public disclosure requests for agency documents, according to applicable laws. This position must have a thorough understanding of agency personnel, records, and systems in order to comprehensively identify potentially responsive records, gather them from agency personnel and systems, apply appropriate redactions, assert applicable exemptions to disclosure, and document their work comprehensively using prescribed methods and tools. It works closely with members of the public, the agency and the legal community. This position also works with Internal Affairs staff on case reviews, consultations, and round table discussions.

NOTE: This is not a full-time telework position. Candidates must be able and willing to work in the office and commute to the Olympia Headquarters Building. A hybrid work schedule may be available after training and/or probationary period has been successfully completed.

Our new teammate will be able to:

  • Fulfill obligations related to public disclosure requests and furnish responsive records for subpoenas and other legal processes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of public records requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for record retention, production and destruction obligations.
  • Collaborate with internal staff and legal counsel at the Office of the Attorney General (AGO) to safeguard confidential/sensitive information.
  • Identify and redact information exempt from disclosure in accordance with legal requirements of the Public Records Act.
  • Testify and/or sign declarations regarding the records furnished/redacted/withheld, and all steps taken to fulfill each public records request.
  • Develop and follow a comprehensive and efficient records filing system and retention process.
  • Supervise on-site/in-person review of records when requested by a member of the public.
  • Advise and assist records custodians in designated work unit(s) about record management.
  • Serve as a consultant to management.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years clerical experience
  • A minimum of 1 year public disclosure experience
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds (archive boxes)

Pay: $49,116.00 - $66,012.00 per year
