Position Summary Information
General Summary
The Production Trainer – Electrical / Mechanical will identify training needs, develop training courses and conduct electrical / mechanical training for all levels of Production Department personnel. The Trainer will also provide skill evaluations and technical assistance to Department personnel on electrical / mechanical matters.
Essential Functions
Provides electrical / mechanical instruction to all Production Department personnel in support of the Facility Technician and Electrical / Mechanical Specialist programs
Prepares training manuals, visual aids, self-assessment instruments, evaluations, forms and charts to supplement training activities
Performs training needs analysis and interprets findings to establish programs and services to increase employee knowledge and skills related to electrical / mechanical topics
Evaluates employee skills and abilities as Subject Matter Expert on Skills Review Panel
Maintains automated training records, evaluates trainees’ classroom performance, and reports progress to supervisory personnel
Evaluates existing programs, resources and policies, monitors effectiveness of programs and policies and makes recommendations for changes as needed
Keeps abreast of developments in electrical and mechanical technology and the latest available courses, training aides, techniques and new developments
Develops Production Department library of resources, publications and training events
Provides remedial electrical / mechanical training as needed
Makes on-site inspections and evaluates methods and procedures used in the electrical / mechanical fields
Utilizes computer-based software to prepare training materials including Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Excel
Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Environment And Physical Demands
Training is usually conducted in normal office training environments and occasionally in Plant environments
Must be able to travel to all WSSC facilities (Water Plants, Wastewater Plants, Pumping Stations, Tanks, Office Buildings, etc.) to inspect them for training needs
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical system installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair techniques
Thorough knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to electrical / mechanical matters; Ability to deal effectively with personnel at all levels
Ability to plan, formulate, assign and supervise classroom activities and hands-on field exercises; Ability to effectively present ideas and recommendations in verbal and written form (including electrical / mechanical plans, diagrams, specifications, Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Excel)
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent;
8 years of progressively responsible water / wastewater experience, including 4 years of senior level water / wastewater operator experience
Additional Requirements
Completion of the WSSC Water Financial Disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter
Possession of a valid driver’s license, with no more than 4 points, and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver’s permit within 90 days of hire or transfer date
Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work
Preferences
Good communication, organizational, and teaching skills.
A licensed journeyman electrician or comparable electrician’s license.
