What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Lender (C&I) position at Washington Trust?
As a Commercial Relationship Manager with the Washington Trust C&I Lending team, you will provide a selection of services (primarily commercial credits and treasury management services) to business clients through active business development and relationship management. Develop relationships with large middle market businesses and their owners. Manage a portfolio of high performing commercial relationships to include but not limited to C&I lending and/or specifically agreed upon specialized industry verticals.
We support a hybrid work schedule with on-site work at our offices in Providence or Westerly, RI.
In this role you'll have the opportunity to:
Generate revenue derived through targeted business development activities with existing commercial clients and new commercial prospect opportunities.
Utilize sales expertise to build a portfolio of prospective clients and leverage an extensive referral network.
Structure, underwrite, and present credit analyses with recommendations on borrowing requests in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
Negotiates term sheets, commitment letters and loan structures with customers based on risk considerations and internal pricing parameters in a highly effective manner.
Retain and grow existing customer portfolio through regular calling, collaboration with business partners, senior management calls and exceptional client management serving as a trusted advisor.
Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of all commercial loan products including types of loan structures, cash management, wealth management and deposits to facilitate cross-selling and enhance the customer experience.
Actively participate in networking functions and events with business and community organizations to maintain high visibility in the market and maintain strong working relationships with diverse groups to enhance the organization’s lending relationships to grow commercial loans, deposits, and wealth.
Identify problem loans and workout of problem loans.
Monitor all credits through periodic reviews and analysis including the ongoing monitoring of loan covenants and risk ratings of the portfolio.
Create awareness of the Bank and its services through community activity.
Coach and mentoring junior loan support staff.
Comply with policies, procedures, security requirements, and government regulations.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or other related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Experience
5 - 8 years in of experience in commercial credit, analysis, or business development required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proven ability to develop and manage large and complex new business relationships.
Possess excellent relationship management, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Possess an in-depth understanding of the local markets being RI, CT and/or MA.
Possess strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to underwrite and structure commercial credits.
Possess an in-depth knowledge of cash management products.
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to commercial lending, appraisal guidelines and other due diligence related methods as appropriate such as field exams.
