Position Summary
The largest undergraduate program at Washington University, the College of Arts & Sciences contains approximately 4,600 degree seeking undergraduate students and more than 600 non-A&S second majors and minors; additionally, it engages with pre-college and visiting students. Student Academic Affairs, housed within the College Office, comprises five central functional areas : four-year advising and the first-year experience; student progress and academic success; academic policies and administration; post-graduate and pre-professional planning; and pre-health advising and programs.
The Assistant Dean of Advising I for Pre-Health Advising and Programs provides comprehensive pre-health focused academic advising to undergraduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Assistant Dean of Advising I also develops, coordinates, and executes programs and events that enhance the academic mission of the College of Arts & Sciences and guides students through preparation for application to professional degree programs in healthcare such as medical, dental, veterinary, physical therapy, and physician assistant programs.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities :
- Serve as a pre-health focused academic advisor for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students within the College of Arts & Sciences.
- Provide pre-health advising to support student persistence in STEM fields and strong applications to medical school and other health-related graduate programs.
- Interpret and explain to students, faculty, staff, and administration admissions requirements to professional degree programs in healthcare, including, but not limited to, pre-requisite coursework as well as clinical and research experience.
- Identify and help resolve obstacles impeding the academic success of students.
- Analyze students' academic and personal issues or concerns and provide referral or intervention services.
- Develop, implement, execute, and assess assigned program(s).
- Coordinate, execute, and maintain assigned program(s) at the direction of the supervisor.
- Serve as a project contact person.
- Produce a variety of documents, reports, proposals, or literature.
- Execute daily tasks and track progress of program.
- Collaborate in the design of program goals, including development and implementation.
- May make decisions regarding annual implementation of processes related to assigned program(s).
- May be responsible for managing assigned program(s).
- May train or mentor student assistants, peer advisors, or academic advisors.
- Support the College Office with additional advising, programming, and mission critical priorities. May serve as an academic advisor across areas of the College Office, for example as a four-year advisor, progress counselor, fellowship advisor, and skills coach.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

53,100.00 - $90,600.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
