Postdoctoral Research Associate - Hematology

Washington University in St Louis
St. Louis, MO Full Time
POSTED ON 3/8/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/4/2025

Position Summary

We are looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow who is interested in advancing their training in a cancer genomics-focused lab. We are in the Division of Hematology in the Department of Medicine. Specifically, we are looking for a trainee who is interested in furthering our understanding of blood cancer development and directly translating those findings into improved diagnostics. This work is highly translational; existing projects are currently being spun through a diagnostic start-up. There are opportunities for projects that will foster a strong transition to an independent research program. Other projects are focused on assay development with more immediate translational potential. These opportunities use a variety of tissue culture, animal, genomics and bioinformatics approaches.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cancer genomics. Specifically, we are looking for motivated individuals with a diverse skillset including tissue culture, molecular biology, animal modeling, genomics and bioinformatics. Any subset of these skills are ideal as there are multiple different projects that can fit the candidates prior research experience and interest.

The Young lab is focused on understanding how cancer arises and improving how cancer is detected. To understand tumorigenesis, we leverage a variety of approaches including genomics, molecular biology, cell culture and animal modeling. We have developed novel assays for cancer detection using genetic and epigenetic biomarkers of disease. While primarily focused on hematologic malignancies, we are also applying these tools to improve the detection of solid tumors and the diagnosis of non-malignant diseases. Long-term our goal is to leverage a deeper understanding of the molecular underpinnings of human disease to drive better diagnostic tools, therapeutic options, and outcomes.
