Position Summary

Under the direction of the Prison Education Project (PEP) Program Director, the Site Administrator designs, implements, and evaluates academic programming at all phases of the PEP academic experience at the prison campus, including coursework, pre-college programming, and student support programming. The person in this position ensures student success in PEP by providing high-quality faculty and tutor training, developing academic resources, creating new academic opportunities for students through internal and external partnership, and evaluating PEP’s existing academic programs in order to modify when needed to improve student outcomes. This position ensures consistent, high-quality academic outcomes across PEP’s campuses. While the Site Administrator is the primary site coordinator at an assigned prison campus, they will also engage with the programs at additional campuses through a combination of teaching, advising, and student support.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with PEP Director, coordinate the design, implementation, and evaluation of academic all programming for the Prison Education Project at assigned campus.
  • Collaborate with PEP Director to plan curricula for AA and BSIS programs and certificate programs.
  • Implement academic support services for students consistent with school’s coaching philosophy; coordinate with the Director of Undergraduate Students and utilize consistent practices to advise students on academic and career pathways, serving as the primary advisor to PEP students at assigned campus and as a supplemental advisor to students at other campuses.
  • With the support of the Vice Dean of Academics and Senior Program Manager, recruit and train PEP faculty.
  • Design and implement pre-college and extracurricular programs.
  • Work alongside PEP Reentry Advocate to support students post-release, including building academic pathways for program alumnae.

Logistical and Administrative

  • Serve as primary DOC site liaison at assigned campus.
  • Onboard new faculty as partners-in-corrections (PICs) with the DOC.
  • Manage material and guest access approval with DOC contacts.
  • Schedule, train, and coordinate tutors for study halls.
  • Facilitate all faculty onboarding in collaboration with PEP and CAPS staff.
  • In collaboration with PEP Director and CAPS Director of Advancement, and Grants Specialist, seek out and develop institutional funding opportunities that will support PEP academic programming; assist in PEP grant reporting and management.
  • Maintain PEP records in collaboration with PEP and CAPS staff.
  • If administrative duties allow, occasional teaching in the program is encouraged up to two three-credit courses annually.
  • Develop and expand academic collaborations between PEP and both on-campus and community resources to enhance the academic experience of PEP students.
  • Collaborate with WashU libraries to increase access to materials for PEP students.

  • Build relationships with WashU Writing Center and Career Center to facilitate access for PEP students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Job Location/Working Conditions

  • Moderate travel to the prison campuses including Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center and Missouri Eastern Correctional Center.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Normal office environment.

  • Ability to move on and off campus locations as needed.

Salary Range

$49,700.00 - $82,100.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
