Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, a nationally recognized medical school, is seeking a Division Chief at the Associate Professor level or above in the clinician educator track for the Division of Academic Specialists of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The Obstetrics & Gynecology Department at Washington University is top ranked with extensive clinical and basic science research. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the Chief will have overall responsibility for the strategic planning, program development, growth and expansion of clinical operations and outreach in line with the department’s mission, vision and values. This key leadership role requires an academic physician leader with strong clinical and business and marketing acumen. The successful candidate will have a track record of outstanding patient care, collaborative leadership skills, individual scholarship, program growth / development, educational excellence, and faculty recruitment. They will be well-informed on national trends and best practices in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology and have demonstrated a strong commitment to medical education and dedication to promoting scholarship and research opportunities for students, residents, fellows, and faculty members. The ability to recruit, develop, mentor and manage academic faculty and staff across the clinical, research, and education missions is essential.
The Chief will join an academic practice of nine faculty and three nurse practitioners and will also serve as Chief of the Division of Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology which consists of two faculty and a nurse practitioner. The Chief should have a strong reputation for clinical care as well as in interest in resident and medical student education.
The practice cares for a large volume of both obstetric and gynecologic patients, and provides a majority of the oversight for the residency-training continuity clinics. Outpatient services are provided on the main campus as well as other clinical locations in the Midwest. Inpatient services are provided on the main campus in Parkview Tower. Parkview Tower is a new facility constructed in 2018. Located adjacent to the NICU at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, this unit provides state-of-the-art services to our patients. There are 18 L&D rooms, 3 ORs (including one for our Fetal Care Program), 18 antepartum rooms, and 36 postpartum rooms.
Qualified candidates must hold board certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology with an MD, DO, MD / PhD or equivalent degree and should be at the rank Associate Professor or above. The successful candidate will be an innovative leader with knowledge and experience in navigating complex academic institutions, health centers, and / or teaching hospitals coupled with administrative experience.
