The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 11.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.
Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.
The Power Plant and Utilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations, capital renewal planning, and budget management of the Euclid Power Plant (EPP). The EPP produces high-pressure steam and chilled water to serve the Washington University School of Medicine campus.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages the maintenance and operations of employees in the Euclid Power Plant.
- Monitors the daily performance of the EPP and keeps up with any operational issues.
- Coordinates contracted services for routine maintenance, repair, and inspection of EPP systems and equipment.
- Manages the operation and maintenance budgets of the EPP.
- Assists OFMD leadership in determining annual utility budgets.
- Assists OFMD leadership with developing the capital renewal program for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, and architectural elements of the Euclid Power Plant.
- Assists OFMD leadership in managing capital and operational budgets, planning and develops processes and information systems, and assists executive leadership in creating master plans to meet current and future needs of campus infrastructure.
- Collaborates with medical center partners and city utility distribution companies in the long-range planning of the water, sewer, natural gas, and electric systems to ensure consistent, reliable, and efficient services.
- Collaborates with the Department of Capital Projects and acts as a subject matter expert on Power Plant infrastructure requirements. Collaborates with the Facilities Engineering department to identify capital deficiencies in the physical plant.
- Communicates with all departments (pre-clinical and clinical), school administrators, off-campus activities, and University administration regarding physical plant-related initiatives and issues.
- Ensures compliance with all city, state, and federal building codes for Steam, chilled water, natural gas, and Ameren power utilities serving existing buildings and all emission standards set by the city, state, or federal agencies.
- Communicates natural gas usage trends of EPP with the Assistant Director of EPP operation for the Natural Gas hedging program.
- Supports the operation of the incidence response/command center.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

$84,200.00 - $148,500.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
