What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director - Finance and Business Operations position at Washington Vocational Services?
This role is a senior-level position within the WVS Leadership Team which oversees the accounting, finances and facilities including technology and real estate. The ideal hire is an active partner to the Executive Director, bringing a forward-looking and proactive stance to managing the Agency’s finances, while being proficient in the areas of Technology and Facilities.
The position also includes oversight of the organization’s investment strategy and financial oversight responsibilities for Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, an additional income-generating business with sites in the Marysville area. Additional operations of Auntie Anne’s is performed through a third-party management company.
· Strategic Role: Works closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to advance the organization’s mission and support strategic goals.
· Finance & Accounting Oversight:
- Directs fiscal policies, prepares the annual budget, generates financial reports, and forecasts.
- Oversees general accounting, auditing, grant compliance, purchasing, and budgetary controls.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepares and presents financial reports to the Board and Audit/Finance Committee.
- Manages accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash flow, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Provides strategic financial analysis and recommendations to the Executive Director, Senior Management, and Board.
· Fund Development:
- Directs fund development, including fundraising and securing grants to strengthen the organization’s financial position.
- Recommends investments to the Finance Committee/Board.
· Operational Management:
- Oversees Facilities, IT, and Administrative Operations.
- Manages property and facilities, including leased and owned properties, to optimize usage and meet staff needs.
- Directs outsourced IT support for maintenance and repairs.
· Staff Management:
- Supervises and trains staff in Finance and Business Operations.
- Manages staffing, scheduling, and recommends personnel actions.
- Supports the training and development of subordinate employees.
· Policy and Procedure Development:
- Updates and maintains the agency’s Fiscal Administration Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Ensures accurate accounting classifications and adheres to legal requirements.
· Board Support:
- Provides support for the Board’s Audit/Finance Committee.
- Keeps the committee informed about major financial and control issues.
· Leadership:
- Embraces and promotes the organization’s culture and core values.
- Exhibits strong leadership and collaboration as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Builds positive, successful relationships with Board members and committees.
