Emergency Specialized Technician - Full Time (Swing/Nights)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Emergency Department (ED) Specialized Technician performs a dual role combining clerical and technical responsibilities to support the efficient operation of the ED. This position coordinates administrative duties such as patient registration, communication, and documentation while also assisting licensed staff with basic nursing care and patient needs. The ED Specialized Technician provides age-appropriate care across the lifespan, demonstrates excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and functions as a key member of the multidisciplinary team.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience
- Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Certified Nurse Assistant required.
Certification Preferred:
- Previous ED experience preferred.
Certification Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support).
Other
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate professionally with employees, physicians, patients, and administrative staff.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and communicate in English; bilingual abilities preferred.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Administrative Duties and Patient Care:
- Perform registration, admission, and discharge functions while gathering and verifying demographic and billing information.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date computer records and documentation in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
- Serve as a receptionist, answering and directing phone calls professionally.
- Communicate daily with internal departments and external resources such as pharmacies, clinics, and home health agencies.
- Order, stock, and maintain medical supplies and ensure proper documentation of usage.
- Operate and maintain special equipment, ensuring its proper function and accurate supply charge documentation.
- Provide basic patient care, including assisting with activities of daily living, specimen collection, and physical comfort measures.
- Transport and position patients for procedures, ensuring safety and comfort.
- Aid in non-sterile procedures such as application of simple dressings and perineal care.
- Collect patient care data, report findings to licensed staff, and ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, supply use, and administrative activities.
- Scan and upload documents to the EMR, notifying nurses of updates as needed.
Scope of Service
- Performs all responsibilities/duties required by unit as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed.
- As directed by the licensed nursing staff, it provides care in a manner that is safe and sensitive to the rights of each patient.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in specific areas of clinical experience, as applicable.

- Contact with administration, physicians, managers, and patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
- Occasionally subjected to pressure due to irregular hours and stressful situations due to multiple demands.

- Exposed to hazardous agents, body fluids and waste.
- Subject to the hazards of flammable and explosive gases.
- Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, emergencies and crisis.
Physical Requirements
- Standing, walking, typing, bending, reaching, and sitting.
- Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking.
- Lifts, pushes, and pulls considerable weight.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
