Medical Imaging Secretary - Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Greets, assists and directs visitors, patients and other hospital callers. Performs various reception and clerical duties for the department. Performs secretarial duties for department manager and Radiologist. Trained as EPIC Super user. Ensures that service to the patient is first priority.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education
- High School graduate or equivalent.
Minimum Work Experience
- A minimum of one year of computer/data entry experience required.
- Accuracy with attention to detail and knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills desired.
- Previous experience working in a hospital setting or customer service highly preferred.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Patient Arrival
- Pleasantly greet, direct and assist patients for scheduled and nonscheduled examinations.
- Enter patient into EMR and RIS.
- Obtain necessary consents for exam.
- Escort/direct patient to dressing area and assist if necessary.
- Obtain patient records and update as needed.
- Maintain smooth patient flow in waiting room.
- Offer assistance to patients and explain delays.
- Assist patients with special exam preps.
- Prepare and dispense oral preps to patients following established guidelines.
- Provides patients with modality health questionnaire.
- Uploads/scans/saves all documents in appropriate files/systems.
- Provides each patient with a wristband and verifies patient ID.
- Creates CDs and DVDs for patient and physician requests.
- Sends and receives electronic imaging through secondary software per physician requests.
- Navigates through multiple worklists for efficient and safe patient flow.
Communication
- Notify technologists of patient arrivals, emergency orders and additions or changes to schedule.
- Notify Radiologist of emergency exams and call report exams.
- Collaborate with the Admitting Department to assure that proper orders, authorizations and billing information are obtained.
- Work with transcription and billing to insure accuracy.
Patient Scheduling
- Schedule patient appointments using the EMR RIS schedule system.
- Notify patients of appointment times and necessary preps.
- Make courtesy reminder calls to the patient the day before appointments and answer any questions regarding the exam, the prep or the check in procedure.
- Consult with technologists or radiologists if necessary.
- Ability to navigate multiple scheduling decision trees.
- Coordination of multiple schedules for IR procedures.
- Coordination of mammography scheduling, report tracking, and patient reminder letters.
- Submission of mammography results into MRS as required by the State of NV.
- Resolves department-scheduling conflicts.
- Manual entry of all non-Epic provider orders.
- Knowledge of physicians orders, office notes, lab orders, lab results, and film requirements.
Utilization and understanding of the following software
- Epic
- Pacs
- Nuance Powershare
- MRS
- Birads
- among others.
