LIBRARIAN
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Manages and directs the school library, providing a learning environment for all students, creating a collection that meets the needs of students and faculty and supports the curriculum, and providing instruction to support and integrate Nevada's Information Literacy Standards within the curriculum.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Incorporates Information Literacy skills in library activities. Collaborates with teachers to plan learning activities, locate resources, and identify student needs. Provides instruction and information about relevant research techniques, including the use of technology, to students and faculty members. Instructs students and faculty in the use of the online library catalog. Provides instruction for students and faculty in the use of online resources, including the informational databases. Encourages students to evaluate Internet resources for relevance and accuracy.
Creates an environment of respect and learning within the library. Assists both teachers and students to locate relevant materials, both in print and electronic formats. Provides individual help to students when necessary. Collaborates with teachers to plan units involving research; maintains a high level of expectation for learning. Supports independent learning; encourages students to develop independent research techniques and critical thinking.
Is an effective library administrator. Maintains and regularly updates the library automation system, including cataloging new materials. Selects materials for the library collection, researching reviews and other informational resources for appropriate materials to support the curriculum and meet student needs. Accepts responsibility for collection development and maintenance, including weeding outdated materials when necessary. Manages and allocates the library budget and keeps accurate, detailed records. Successfully supervises library staff, including library assistant/associates and student aides, clearly articulating their duties and responsibilities. Schedules classes in the library and manages large and small group instruction.
Maintains professionalism. Attends all faculty meetings and participates in curriculum planning. Assists in planning school-wide events in which the library can play a part. Attends regularly scheduled District library meetings. Participates actively in library-related and educational associations on the local, state, and national level. Continues to seek professional development opportunities on a regular basis.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Must hold or be eligible for a valid Nevada teaching certificate and a Nevada Library Media Endorsement.

Teacher's Salary Schedule
Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. View the salary schedules here.
This position is for the 2025/26 school year with an anticipated contract start date after July, 1st 2025.

Please be advised health insurance premiums are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
