What are the responsibilities and job description for the SEASONAL RECREATION AIDE position at Washoe County?
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties in support of a recreation program or activity; assists in the operation of facilities that require collection of monies for admissions, programs, and concession within the Washoe County Park System; and performs related work as required.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill a current non-benefitted seasonal vacancy in the Community Services Department – Regional Parks and Open Space Division. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Seasonal Positions are full or part-time and last no longer than 6 months.
Locations: Bowers Pool, North Valleys Splash Park or Lazy 5 Melio Gaspari Water Park.
Weekend and evening shifts may be required.

Six months of participation in organized activities such as sports teams, clubs, volunteer programs, community service programs, or school events OR three months of experience in a customer service, recreation, education, or childcare setting; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
License Or Certificate
Some assignments may require training/certification in Basic First Aid and CPR. Required certifications must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.
Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
This is not a classified position and is not covered by a collective bargaining unit. “Seasonal hourly employee” means the position is not to exceed six (6) months. Seasonal Hourly employees are “at will” employees and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
Retired PERS (Public Employees’ Retirement System of Nevada) employees are responsible for contacting PERS to make sure that they do not go over the assigned PERS earnings limit for a fiscal year in order to retain retirement benefits. PERS phone number is 775-687-4200 to check for yearly updates.
