Position Summary:
Under direct supervision the Shift Lead is responsible first and foremost, to meet the needs of the customer. Responsible for all activity in the store during assigned shift. Ensures that the store meets company standards and that all employees comply with company policies. Provides guidance and training to other Clerks. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. Main focus is supervision of food and beverage area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Pays attentions to preparation, presentation, and quality control of food and beverage area.
- Assists Food and Beverage manager in training staff in cleanliness and safety standards of food and beverage area.
- Knowledge of all Tobacco products offered.
- Responds to customer complaints as necessary.
- Tracks customer requests for new products.
- Coaches, counsels and directs the activities of employees in the store on a day-to-day basis, and provides ongoing training.
- Assigns duties, assists in the completion of performance reviews of subordinates, and communicates with Store Manager and or Designated Supervisor on staff requests and any problem that requires attention (out of stock, equipment failure, etc.).
- Operates Point of Sale System.
- Performs and assigns stocking or cleaning duties
- Shares in the responsibility of food preparation, quality control, and presentation.
- Opens additional registers when needed in order to provide fast and friendly service to the customer.
- Responsible for safeguarding the company’s assets unless physical safety is in jeopardy.
- Follows company policies with regard to cash control, proper safe operation.
- Follows correct vendor check-in procedures. Reviews inventory status to avoid over stock or out of stock product.
- Completes all end of shift paperwork.
- Pays immediate attention to any spill or other hazardous condition.
- Ensures merchandising procedures are implemented on a timely basis and displays always include proper pricing and correct signage. Merchandise should always be fronted; particular attention should be paid to the cooler doors (dairy, beer and other cold drinks).
- Provides guidance and training to other Retail Clerks.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
- Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
- Knowledge of Point of Sale System, sales methods and techniques.
- Ability to read and understand instructions for operating Point of Sale System, gas consoles, and other equipment.
- Ability to obtain tobacconist certification within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to be personable, responsive, caring, knowledgeable and flexible with all customers.
- Ability to service customers in a professional appearance and manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability and willingness to work long and sometimes unusual hours, and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

- Skill in money handling, basic mathematics, and the ability to account for a variety of products during vendor check-in.
- Skill in supervising assigned staff.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carrying cases of soft drinks, beer and juice, etc. Physically capable of stocking shelves and coolers, including entering and working in cooler and or freezer at temperature of 36 for up to 30 minutes.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in the Retail Store and grounds. Day, and Swing shifts and/or holidays may be required.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and one year retail experience in a lead cashier capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or internal candidates must have six months on-the-job experience.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
- Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.
