Position Overview:
The Building Trade Union Program Specialist is a part-time position responsible for supporting Building Trade Union programs and managing related equipment and warehouse operations. The Specialist plays a key role in organizing, setting up, and delivering equipment for partner programs held on campus, including the transportation and setup of equipment in classrooms during events.
This role also oversees warehouse logistics, ensuring proper storage, maintenance, and distribution of materials essential for trade union training programs. Additionally, the Specialist is responsible for equipment management, safety compliance, and operational tasks to ensure the seamless execution of programs and facility operations.
Seasonal Responsibilities:
Building Trade Union Program Specialist
- Assist with the setup, breakdown, and execution of all Building Trade Union summer programs. These programs include the IBEW, Ironworkers, Plaster’s and Masons, Roofers, and UA Plumbers and Pipefitters.
- Support the storage and organization of equipment, supplies, and materials for all Building Trade Union (BT) programs and events.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment in training spaces; report non-working or unsafe equipment as needed.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, and SDS safety standards across all Building Trade Partner storage and lab facilities.
- Collaborate with the UA Technical Director and the Dean of Skilled Trades to prepare and manage materials and equipment for classes, programs, and events.
- Communicate with instructors, Building Trades staff, and logistics teams regarding program needs, event setup, and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate and work with outside contractors to ensure contract work is completed per requirements for all programs.
- Manage inventory and organization of the warehouses.
- Conduct equipment tests, providing repair or troubleshooting support when necessary.
- Assist with the shipping, receiving, and distribution of materials for union classes.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support all training programs and events.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds.
- Work requires periods of standing, walking, and physical activity during event setup, teardown, and lab work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must possess an OSHA forklift certification
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, MIOSHA, and SDS requirements.
- Valid driver’s license from the State of Michigan.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Capable of lifting and transporting at least 50 pounds.
- Must maintain regular attendance on campus.

- Experience working in an educational or training environment.
- Knowledge of the Union Trades Industry, including familiarity with training events andtechnical skills related to Plumbing, Pipefitting, Welding, HVACR, and Fire Protection.
- Experience working with hand tools, power equipment, and safety protocols.
