Position Summary:
This position is a full-time faculty position that includes instruction, office hours and professional contributions to the college community to create an innovative and engaging learning environment
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Using each course outline, facilitate student learning, provide effective on campus instruction in lectures and laboratories, and perform evaluations of student learning for Environmental Science courses.
- Teach first- and second-year college-level lectures and laboratory courses in environmental science.
- Teach a diverse student body in daytime, evening, and Saturday classes on the main campus, at extension centers, and business and industry sites.
- Courses may be taught in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, virtual, and online.
- Participate actively in department, division and general faculty meetings, applicable college committee activities, and in other areas of college service.
- Maintain an active program of professional development related to institutional objectives.
- Utilize technology for teaching and testing. (Canvas, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Participate actively in professional and departmental duties including assisting the existing program and discipline lead in environmental science, serving on hiring committees as needed, and assuming the role of lead instructor for one or more environmental science courses as directed by the discipline lead. The duties of the lead instructor may include, but are not limited to, mentoring part time faculty, textbook selection, syllabus writing, examination development, coordinating and planning curriculum and assessment activities for individual courses, preparing environmental science instructional materials, developing and updating courses (including on-line), developing and coordinating lab activities, and overseeing the implementation of lab policies and procedures.
- Assume the role of program coordinator for environmental science if needed, or as directed by the discipline lead. The duties of the program coordinator may include, but are not limited to, advising program students, coordinating curriculum and assessment activities for the program, and working with other colleges and universities to create articulation agreements, and working with area businesses and organizations to maintain and create cooperative education and internship opportunities for program students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Master’s degree in environmental science OR master’s degree in a related field with minimum 18 graduate credits in environmental science.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching through the equivalent of two years of full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
- Strong computer skills
- Strong communication skills
