What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Mechanic position at Waste Connections?
Job Summary:
A high-energy Diesel Mechanic is needed to join the team at our Hauling location in New Port Richey, FL. This individual will perform preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and repairs on hydraulic and electrical systems of garbage trucks.
This position requires a Monday-Thursday schedule from 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Friday from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM, and one Saturday per month from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulics, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Utilize vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
- Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
- Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Extensive physical activity is required.
- Heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds is necessary.
- The work environment may be indoors in a shop or outdoors to repair trucks on the road.
Minimum Job Requirements
- A valid Class B CDL with an air brakes endorsement is preferred or the ability to obtain in the future.
- Must provide own personal tools.
