What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landfill Gas Technician position at Waste Connections?
Winnebago Landfill is looking for a Landfill Gas Technician at our landfill in Rockford, Illinois.

Responsibilities include:
- Ensure landfill gas and waste water systems remains in compliance with all Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
- Perform routine system inspections and repairs on the landfill.
- Work with Region Engineer and Landfill Manager to ensure compliance.
- Maintain relationships with landfill employees as well as consultants, vendors, customers generating industrial waste.
- Assist in landfill environmental reviews and audits.
- Perform technical duties relevant to the landfill gas extraction system compliant to landfill operations.
- Provide assistance in fulfillment of all technical/regulating/operational documentation related to the landfill.
- Assist in general manager’s administration of all landfill operations/programs, daily business dealings/communications.
- Analyze data and prepare summaries, recommendations and cost estimates for consideration by senior engineers and/or managers.
- Conduct on-site technical visits to satellite sites to review and evaluate operational efficiency of equipment and systems at various facilities.
- Monitor and maintain field installation and testing.
- Assist senior engineer and/or management in reviewing design and development plans, calculating cost estimates for completing the proposed projects and evaluating the engineering proposals and specifications.
- Compose technical reports to document engineering analysis, solutions and results.
- Represent the organization in conferences to resolve important issues and to plan and coordinate work.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Ability to follow established procedures with minimal amount of direct supervision.
- Understanding of landfill gas systems
- Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, contracts, federal, state and local regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to prepare reports at the state or local levels.
- Must be mechanically proficient on a variety of systems and field instruments.
- Ability to define problems collects data, interpret data and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Minimum requirements:
Some direct work experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Environmental site assessments and remediation
- Environmental audits
