Summary
Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in the operations of the facility and train operation personnel in the use, safety procedures and operation of heavy equipment and/or waste processing. Directly reports to the TSDF Operations Manager. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may receive occupational exposures to ionizing radiation that are As Low As is Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and within regulatory limits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Direct subordinate employees in the Operations Department on projects.
  • Conducts daily pre-job briefings with crew, including support organization personnel.
  • Inspect work areas to determine the type of work required, materials needed and equipment to be used.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Direct employees and assists in training employees on applicable equipment to perform job tasks.
  • Determine the skill level of operators to advance them to more complicated equipment based on demonstration of ability to operate safely and efficiently.
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work related goals.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Study production schedules and estimates person-hour requirements for completion of jobs assigned.
  • Interpret company policies and job orders to workers and enforce safety regulations.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of production.
  • Analyze and resolve work issues or assist employees in problem solving.
  • Maintain time and production records.
  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual department.
  • Perform activities of workers supervised.
  • Document completion and status of all work activities in the appropriate work order and/or daily operations report.
  • Performs departmental training required for employees.
  • Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for routine operation.
  • Assist in the development of Work Instructions, Procedures, Cost Models and other job-related documents.
  • Apply and reinforce the skills learned through human performance training to prevent personal errors and errors by other team members.
  • Participate and support Emergency Management as directed by the WCS Incident Commander.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise employees in the Operations Department with overall responsibility in the field for carrying out operational activities for their assigned area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations’ policies and applicable law. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institute in engineering or construction technology; or sixty hours related study in the field of hazardous waste management, environmental science and/or radiation health and two to three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret simple instructions and short correspondence. Ability to write simple correspondence Ability to conduct pre-job briefings to groups in a logical and organized manner. Ability to develop & present safety related topics. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, and small group situations

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide, in all unit of measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of internet software and word processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Desired but not required: Level III National Certification from the National Center for Construction Education and Research or the ability to obtain Level III certification within 6 months.,

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and smell. The employee is required to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis and personal protective equipment including hand, foot and body. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Sufficient strength and stamina to perform a variety of heavy construction-related tasks including use of hand tools; foot, hand and eye coordination sufficient to perform duties; and natural balance sufficient for standing on high ladders and scaffolding

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and hot and cold weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may receive occupational exposures to ionizing radiation that are As Low As is Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) and within regulatory limits. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Working surfaces are often uneven and represent of a construction site.
