Position Overview
The Watauga County Farmers’ Market (WCFM) is seeking a highly organized and motivated individual to serve as our Assistant Market Manager. This role is essential in supporting the Market Manager with the weekly operations of the Market, managing our Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) food access program, and assisting with marketing and communications efforts to promote the Market and its vendors. The anticipated start date is on or around April 5, 2025.
Primary Responsibilities (Market Days)
Market Operations & Customer Engagement:
- Serve as a friendly and knowledgeable resource for vendors and customers
- Ensure adherence to market rules and policies
- Set up and staff the Market Info Booth, assisting with customer inquiries
- Manage setup and takedown of market infrastructure (tents, tables, traffic cones, signs, trash cans)
- Oversee parking logistics and direct staff/volunteers to ensure safe, efficient parking
- Record attendance and maintain hourly reports
- Assist with special events, cooking demos, kids’ activities, and community booth visitors
- Serve as Market Manager in their absence, ensuring all operational tasks are completed
Food Access & Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) Program:
- Serve as the primary point person for DUFB at the Market
- Facilitate SNAP/EBT/FMNP transactions and educate customers on food access programs
- Distribute and collect vendor tokens and maintain accurate records
- Organize DUFB supplies and track program data
Marketing & Communications:
- Create photo and video content during market days for use on social media, newsletters, and the website
- Develop engaging social media posts to highlight vendors, products, and special events
- Assist in maintaining the WCFM website and e-newsletter
- Help distribute promotional materials such as flyers, posters, and yard signs
Additional Responsibilities (Non-Market Days, Remote & In-Person)
- Assist with vendor and volunteer coordination
- Maintain storage and market facilities
- Attend community meetings or events on behalf of WCFM as needed
- Other tasks as assigned to support the Market Manager
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel and data entry
- Basic photography, videography, and/or graphic design skills for digital marketing
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing social media platforms for a business or organization
- Knowledge of food access programs and/or farmers’ market operations
- Experience handling payments, inventory, or financial transactions
- Leadership experience in a customer-facing or event coordination role
