Position Summary
The Pre-Op/PACU/Pre-Admission Testing registered nurse serves as the initial and primary contact for referral sources to direct screening and clearance of patients scheduled for surgical procedures/treatments. The Pre-Op/PACU/PAT registered nurse is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the Pre-Op, PACU, and Pre-Admission departments and other areas of service for all patient populations at the ASC. This position provides care within the nursing standards of practice and policies of the ASC. The Pre-Op/PACU/PAT nurse is responsible for making decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicating information to other team members as necessary.
Qualifications
· Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
· Current registered nurse licensure in the state of TN
· Two years minimum experience working in a perioperative environment
· BLS required, ACLS required, PALS required
· Excellent teaching skills & passion for patient education
· Strong communication skills to instruct patients and their family members
· Ability to work independently and in a team, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude
· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
· Determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations
· Can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
· Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professionally

· Responsible for using sound judgement, interpersonal communication skills; evaluate the patients’ needs, ensuring a positive outcome
· Gather and restock supplies and equipment for perioperative services as needed
· Evaluate patient’s past medical history and review all pre-operative test results
· Communicate to all applicable physicians when results are outside normal limits or incomplete
· Provide education regarding the expected physiological and psychosocial responses to the operative procedure/treatment
· Monitor of perioperative supply inventory; notify management when supplies are needed
· Ensure that the perioperative department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner
· Ability to prepare patients for all surgical procedures/treatments for all surgeons
· Ability to recover patients throughout all phases of recovery from all procedures/treatments, from immediate post anesthesia through discharge, including discharge teaching
· Develops an individualized perioperative patient plan of care based on specific patient needs and according to physicians’ orders; individualize patient care based on patient’s health status, age, and surgery/procedure/treatment performed
· Perform interventions to ensure procedures are performed on the correct site, side, and level
· Manage patient data and implement action plans appropriate to situations using good judgement and critical thinking skills
· Demonstrates ability to adequately assess and reassess pain
· Observes behavioral and physiological changes due to medications
· Coordinate transfer of patient to higher level of care facility when necessary
· Accurately document on the patient’s record in a clear, concise manner according to policy
· Interact with team members regarding patient progress
· Assume accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of competencies, mandatory programs, and participation in meetings
· Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
· Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times
· Responsible for knowing and following the standards established by HIPAA
