Operation Managers at Watco Mechanical Services are empowered to run their business - from leading daily operations to taking ownership of their financial results. Our Operation Managers are self-motivated leaders who spend time on the shop floor to connect and coach their team members in the moment and identify ways to drive results. Our Operation Managers work with their Department Managers to meet the financial and operational goals for their facility while ensuring they are providing quality work and keeping their team members safe. This role provides the opportunity to develop your own team, work directly with our customers and develop and grow our business.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

• Ensure safety is made the highest priority within the facility; strive for continual improvement in compliance with federal, state and company directives.
• Continually monitor operations to improve productivity, effectiveness, and efficiencies. Develop and propose improvement plans for senior leadership consideration.
• Accepts full P&L responsibility for the facility.
• Responsible for ensuring companywide programs, policies, and procedures are implemented effectively within the facility.
• Provide hands on leadership to mentor and develop management team.
• Coordinate internal and external resources as needed to provide team member training, endeavor for efficiency improvements, and reduce quality non-conformances.
• Act as the facility’s leader for customer and vendor relations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective use of standard office computer technology such as databases, word processing, ERP and reporting systems.
• Knowledge of General Accounting Principles and effective accounting controls.
• Requires the ability to manage and prioritize multiple goals.
• Ability to effectively present information to broad groups of audience, including senior management and external customers.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred but not required
• At least Seven plus (5 ) years minimum experience required in an operations or heavy manufacturing environment.
• Five (3 ) years minimum of successful management experience managing multiple levels with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to run a successful operation.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategies into operation objectives and projects.
• Strong analytical skills, self-motivated with excellent team work.
• Goal oriented and a strong customer service attitude.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Heavy Industrial Environment
• May work around a multitude of hazardous chemicals / wastes through the supervision / execution of yours and your teams' daily duties while repairing railcars which may be in open or OSHA permit required confined space
• Ability to wear PPE as required for the environment.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs. or more to accomplish work tasks around heavy moving equipment
• With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid and dusty conditions
