Job Summary:
The Utility Construction Worker is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground and above-ground utility infrastructure, including water, sewer, gas, and electrical systems. This position involves operating heavy equipment, performing manual labor, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Utility Installation & Maintenance:
- Assist in the installation and repair of water, sewer, storm drainage, and other utility lines.
- Lay pipes, set meters, and install utility connections according to project blueprints.
- Conduct pressure tests and inspections to ensure proper function of utility systems.
Construction & Site Work:
- Perform grading, compaction, and backfilling operations if applicable.
- Assist in road and sidewalk repairs following utility installations.
- Operate and maintain tools, machinery, and vehicles used in utility construction.
- Set up traffic control measures and work zone safety barriers as needed.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow OSHA and company safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to all job site safety requirements.
- Ensure work complies with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist in emergency utility repairs and response to service outages.
Teamwork & Communication:
- Work closely with crew members, foremen, and engineers to complete projects efficiently.
- Communicate site conditions, issues, and progress to supervisors.
- Interact professionally with customers, residents, and local authorities when needed.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related fields is a plus.
- No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
Skills & Abilities:
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn equipment operation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic math and computer skills for data entry and reporting.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be willing to obtain a state water distribution manager certification within 1 year of employment.
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is a plus.
- Confined space entry and trench safety certification (preferred)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work involves exposure to chemicals, odors, and outdoor elements.
- Requires lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods.
- Work may include weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts as needed.

Pay: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour
