Waterford Public Schools has a vacancy for a team-oriented individual. Waterford Public Schools is seeking a JV Varsity Softball Coach at Waterford High School for the Spring of the 2024-25 school year. The Districts facilities include three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The Waterford community strongly supports the public schools and has high expectations for staff and students. According to the State of Connecticut Next Generation Performance Accountability System, Waterford Public Schools ranks in the top third of K-12 school districts in the state. The Waterford Board of Education is a nine-member elected body.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching and Instruction:
- Plan and conduct daily practices from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM timeframe on weekdays.
- Provide fundamental skill development in hitting, pitching, fielding, and game strategy.
- Promote proper techniques and a strong understanding of the rules and strategies of softball.
Game Management:
- Attend and coach all scheduled JV games, including weekends as required.
- Collaborate with the varsity coach to ensure alignment in program goals and strategies.
- Manage game-day logistics, including lineups, equipment, and player supervision.
Team Development:
- Encourage teamwork, discipline, and leadership among players.
- Maintain a supportive and inclusive team environment.
- Provide constructive feedback and individualized attention to players for growth.
Administrative Duties:
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school staff regarding schedules, expectations, and team updates.
- Uphold and enforce all CIAC and school policies related to athletics.
Safety and Equipment:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
- Maintain and manage team equipment and facilities.

Qualifications:
Coaching Experience: CT Coaching Certification Required.
- Previous softball coaching experience (preferred).
- Knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategies, and safety protocols.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the varsity coach and other staff.
- Dedication to mentoring and developing high school athletes.

Salary is 50% of WFCT Assistant Coach Salary
Work Schedule
- Practice Times: Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM 5:00 PM.
- Games: Scheduled on weekdays (3:00pm-5:00pm timeframe) and on weekends as required.
