Cafe Manager
Job Summary:
The Waterfront Cafe Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the cafe. This role involves ensuring high-quality food and beverage services, maintaining a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere, as well as managing a small team of 2-4 cafe staff members. The manager is also responsible for administrative tasks, inventory management, and customer service. The cafe manager plays a crucial role in providing a nourishing experience for Cayuga Wellness Center patrons, contributing to their overall health and well being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cafe Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the cafe, including opening and closing procedures
- Ensure the cafe ordering is done promptly and accurately
- Maintain a clean and organized cafe environment that aligns with the ethos of both Rasa Spa and Island Health & Fitness
- Staff Management
- Train and schedule cafe staff
- Provide guidance, coaching, and real-time feedback to cafe employees
- Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork
- Customer Service
- Ensure exceptional customer service by setting and maintaining service standards for cafe staff
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and special requests in a professional and courteous manner
- Take customer orders, answer questions about the menu, make recommendations based on their patronage at the Cayuga Wellness Center (guest at the spa, fitness center member, health goals, etc.)
- Monitor and enhance the overall guest experience in the cafe
- Food & Beverage Preparation
- Prepare and serve a variety of espresso, coffee, tea, and smoothie drinks
- Operate espresso machine and other equipment
- Prepare in house grab n’ go cooler items, as well as made to order items including salads, grain bowls, acai bowls, paninis, toasts, and wraps
- Maintain quality standards in the preparation and presentation of menu items
- Financial Management
- Monitor sales and expenses, analyze financial reports, and implement strategies to maximize profitability
- Handle cash management, cash register reconciliation and financial reporting
- Inventory & Supplier Management
- Maintain adequate inventory levels while minimizing waste and spoilage
- Implement inventory control procedures to minimize overstock and understock situations
- Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure that the cafe operates in compliance with health and safety regulations and sanitation standards
- Implement and enforce food safety procedures and ensure staff adherence to these guidelines
- Holistic Approach
- Promote a healthy lifestyle by aligning the cafe’s offerings with the spa and gym’s wellness philosophy
- Be informed about wellness-focused practices and offerings, such as herbal teas, superfoods, vitamins, and nutritional education
Qualifications:
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
- Previous experience in cafe or restaurant, management experience required
- Knowledge of holistic nutrition, dietary needs, and wellness principles a plus
- Ability to work a flexible Mon-Fri schedule, and be on call
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
Experience:
- 5 years restaurant experience, management experience a plus
- 5 years customer service experience preferred
- Barista and/or guest services experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Team-oriented
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Proficient in cafe POS systems
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Food Studies, Hospitality, or related field
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
