Job Summary: This position is responsible for working with students under the direction of teaching staff to contribute to the overall program quality of the assigned classroom or service, enhancing learning for all. This position will also foster the development of community and school relationships which lead to high student achievement, stronger families and healthier communities.

Education
- High school diploma or equivalency
Certification
- Licensed interpreter – State of Iowa
Experience
- Two (2) years experience providing translation services in an educational setting, preferred
- Experience working with children

Job Duties:
- Provides interpreting services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students as needed. Accompanies students to class and interprets lectures, lessons and any other information presented to students during class time in a sign language system familiar to the student (American Sign Language, Signing Exact English (SEE), Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE), etc.). Sign-to-voice interprets for students to teachers, service providers and peers. Facilitates communication between the classroom teacher and the student to address needs, concerns, problems, etc. as they arise.
- Assists teachers, nurses, clerical staff, counselors and administrators in contacting parents as needed.
- Assists with the enrollment of new students.
- Assists with lunch and bus duty as needed.
- Attends conferences and assists as needed.
- Serves as a resource for the district and school staff as needed.
- Serves as a resource to families about district policies and procedures as needed.
- Makes home visits with staff or individually as needed.
- Attends work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintains records as required by law, district policy and administrative requirements.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
