Watermelon Mountain Ranch is looking for Cat/Kitten Adoption Counselor at our PetSmart Westside Adoption Center. A dependable team player who is reliable, has excellent customer service skills, and loves cats!
The Cat Adoption Counselor assists prospective adopters with animal selection and transition into the home. The Cat Adoption Counselor will provide excellent care and attention to the cats and kittens in our care, and exceptional customer service to the public.
Counselors should maintain a clean and organized workspace and maintain the cleanliness of the adoption area, attending to various animal needs throughout the day. They will provide a welcoming environment for volunteers and integrate them into the workday in a meaningful way.
Essential Functions:
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service and exercise-friendly, engaging, and helpful interaction with the public, always projecting a positive attitude and image at Watermelon Mountain Ranch.
- Offer guidance and assistance to the public who are interested in cats and kittens.
- Become knowledgeable about Watermelon Mountain Ranch, sharing our mission, available programs, and accomplishments.
- Gratefully receive donations, and assist with the completion of the donation form.
- Store in-kind donations to facilitate transfer to storage at the end of the day.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment throughout the day.
Adoptions
- Preserve health and safety of the felines, ensuring visitors use sanitizer, close doors properly.
- Become knowledgeable about the animals available for adoption whether they are in foster care, or any other WMR location.
- Review adoption applications and approve/deny applications in a positive, firm, and non-threatening manner.
- Facilitate the matching of adopters with animals and perform adoptions using approved adoption counseling techniques; ensure adopters are informed regarding behavioral and medical concerns.
- Take photographs and videos of animals for publicity purposes.
- Spot clean adoption area for spills or garbage throughout the day and monitor cat cages, including scooping litter boxes as needed.
- Work closely with and provide training to volunteers.
General
- Possess a clear understanding of and adhere to standard operating procedures and the policies and procedures of WMR.
- Be on time and present for scheduled shifts; maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance.
- Must work efficiently, with attention to detail, and demonstrate initiative, motivation, creativity, and enthusiasm for the position and WMR.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and/or Qualifications Necessary to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be physically and mentally able to handle animals safely and effectively.
Schedule: Wednesday - Sundays, 10:30am-5pm
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.5 per week
