Waters Aero Marine (WAM) operates two air services, Penobscot Island Air (PIA) and Katahdin Air (KA), specializing in last-mile transportation to remote locations. PIA services the islands of Penobscot Bay with air taxi, mail, and freight services via ferry and a fleet of six Cessna aircraft. KA services the lakes and camps of northern Maine with air taxi and freight service with two float planes. We’re dedicated to safe, reliable air transportation and take pride in maintaining a high standard of aircraft maintenance and operational integrity. We’re seeking a qualified Director of Maintenance (DOM) to oversee and manage all aspects of our maintenance program.
Position Summary
The Director of Maintenance (DOM) is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of all company aircraft and outside maintenance in accordance with FAA regulations, company manuals, and manufacturer recommendations. The DOM ensures aircraft are airworthy, scheduled inspections are completed, discrepancies are addressed promptly, and maintenance personnel are properly supervised and trained.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure all aircraft are maintained in accordance with 14 CFR Parts 43, 91, and 135, as well as company procedures
- Supervise and schedule maintenance personnel.
- Oversee compliance with all applicable Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins, and company maintenance programs
- Manage aircraft logbooks, maintenance tracking systems, and digital records
- Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs
- Act as liaison with FAA FSDO and ensure company readiness for audits or inspections
- Maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and tooling
- Ensure all maintenance staff operate in a safe, professional, and compliant manner
Required Qualifications
- FAA Mechanic Certificate with A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) and IA (Inspection Authorization) ratings
- Minimum 3 years of aircraft maintenance experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity
- Experience maintaining piston-powered aircraft, preferably Cessna 100/200 series
- Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 135 maintenance requirements
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a small team
- Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
