Job Title: Family Life Pastor
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Direct Report: Director of Ministries
Status: Full-Time / Salaried - Portion of the role's salary will be self-funded by the employee. The remaining, agreed upon portion, will be base salary and benefits paid by the Church.
Job Summary: The Family Life Pastor at Overflow Church is responsible for leading and overseeing ministries that support the spiritual growth and discipleship of families, including infants/birth through high school. This role is designed to create a holistic, Christ-centered approach to family ministry, ensuring that families are equipped to grow in faith together. The Family Life Pastor will work closely with the Director of Ministries to develop, implement, and oversee programming that aligns with the mission and vision of Overflow Church.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Oversight: Provide vision, direction, and oversight for all family-related ministries, including Kids (birth-5th grade), Preteen, and Youth (Middle & High School) Ministries. Develop and implement a strategic plan for family discipleship that aligns with Overflow Church’s mission of “Generating Hope” within families and the broader community. Recruit, lead, and develop a volunteer team to ensure effective ministry operations, training, and engagement. Partner with the Director of Ministries to coordinate events, curriculum planning, and leadership development within family ministries. Serve as a member of the teaching team, contributing to the teaching ministry of Overflow Church. Expand the preteen ministry into a true youth experience that bridges the gap between kids' ministry and high school ministry.
2. Pastoral Care & Discipleship: Shepherd, equip, and disciple families, ensuring they are supported in their spiritual growth. Provide pastoral care and counseling to parents, children, and youth as needed. Develop and implement initiatives that encourage strong marriages and healthy family dynamics. Engage with families inside and outside of the church community, helping them connect with the church and grow in their faith. Prioritize engaging and retaining new families to foster long-term growth and discipleship within the church.
3. Teaching & Equipping: Oversee and implement biblically sound teaching and discipleship strategies for children, youth, and parents. Equip parents with resources and tools to lead spiritual growth at home. Work with the Director of Ministries to develop a cohesive discipleship pathway from childhood to adulthood.
4. Outreach & Community Engagement: Develop outreach strategies to engage families within the surrounding community. Partner with local schools, organizations, and community groups to provide family support and gospel-centered resources. Serve as a bridge between church and community, ensuring Overflow Church is a known and trusted resource for families.
5. Administrative & Team Collaboration: Work alongside the Director of Ministries to ensure ministry alignment and effectiveness. Manage the Family Life Ministry budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources. Assist in planning and executing church-wide initiatives and seasonal events that involve families (e.g., VBS, family retreats, parenting workshops, holiday programs). Collaborate with church leadership to ensure seamless integration of family ministries into the broader mission of the church. Prepare and submit monthly reports on ministry progress, attendance, volunteer engagement, and impact metrics. Ensure ministry scheduling is aligned with overall church scheduling to provide a seamless experience for families.
Qualifications & Skills:
A deep and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by a commitment to personal spiritual growth. Strong leadership and pastoral skills, with the ability to inspire and equip others. Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Experience leading children, youth, or family ministries in a church setting. Strong communication, organizational, and relational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with the Director of Ministries, staff, and volunteers. Passion for equipping families to be the primary disciple-makers in their homes. Commitment to Overflow Church’s mission, vision, and values.
Work Schedule & Expectations:
Full-time role with flexible hours, including Sundays, midweek gatherings, and special events. Schedule will be managed in collaboration with the Director of Ministries to ensure alignment with church-wide programming and family schedules. Active engagement in the life of Overflow Church, including participation in staff meetings, leadership development, and community involvement.
