Summary :
The electrician provides electrical support to the Director; responsible for performing skilled level electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with standards practice of the electrical trade to the school and town's public buildings. Performs other related work or other maintenance requirements as directed.
This job requires initiative, organizational problem solving skills, and the ability to acquire knowledge of program operations, policies and procedures. Incumbents are expected to work independently and carry out electrical work and facility management details without requiring the immediate attention of an administrator(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

- Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems and equipment, both high and low voltage, air distributions systems, pumps, transformers, motors, streetlights, and appliances.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Documents information on preventive maintenance file on electrical equipment and machinery and monitor a preventive maintenance program.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Draws circuits on a one line diagram for controls.
- Design functional electric circuitry for electrical systems.
- Locate and adjust defects in electrical systems and equipment.
- Estimate labor or material costs / amounts from blueprints or work plans.
- Express ideas on technical problems clearly and concisely orally and in writing in the English language.
- Comply with laws and regulations regarding safety.
- Comply with state codes, fire codes and OSHA.
- Complies with all Rules and Regulations from local, state, or federal guidelines.
- Adheres to all safety guidelines.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Use and care for hand tools and equipment necessary to perform various electrical repairs tasks
- Respond to emergencies outside normal work hours
- Performs other similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates
- Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
- Performs additional maintenance duties as assigned by the Director of Public Buildings

Physical Demands :
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands : Moderate to strenuous physical effort is required to perform duties. The employee is frequently required to use hands to operate equipment, walk, stand, speak and hear, reach with hands and arms, balance, crouch, crawl, stoop, and climb. Stamina is required to work in adverse weather conditions; required to work in confined spaces and lift or move items weighing up to 60, and sometimes more than 100, pounds. Physical ability is required to use electrical equipment, power and hand tools, drive a light truck and use heavy equipment. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents, use a computer and operate a motor vehicle. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
Sensory Requirements :
Most tasks require visual perception and the ability to distinguish color. The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively other staff members in order to exchange accurate information.
Work Environment :
The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity and the particular part of the day and location. The employee interacts with other staff members and occasionally must meet multiple demands from several people.
Work is performed indoors and some outdoors work, with exposure to adverse weather conditions; frequently required to work in proximity to high voltage power sources, work in confined spaces and in high places. The employee is required to respond to weather-related emergencies.
The employee operates standard office equipment, electrical equipment, hand, pneumatic and power tools, light trucks and light equipment. The employee must be able to drive to the 6 schools within the district as well as the city buildings.
Errors in decisions could result in injury to others, delay or loss of service, damage to buildings or equipment, monetary loss, and legal repercussions.
