What are the responsibilities and job description for the Zookeeper (Part-Time) position at Watertown SD Park & Recreation?
This position is responsible to assist with the animal care and animal collections for the Bramble Park Zoo and provides for safe, sustainable, and attractive recreational opportunities for residents and the general public.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensures a safe and excellent customer service experience to our residents, members and patrons.
2. Provides food preparation, feeding, animal husbandry, and maintenance of animal exhibits.
3. Perform daily observation of animals to identify normal and abnormal behaviors related to husbandry/health issues; coordinates with staff on animal training programs to facilitate husbandry behaviors.
4. Communicates questions or concerns regarding medical/health issues of specimens in collection to supervisor. Assists with treatment as directed by veterinarian.
5. Maintains animal health records and animal activity records.
6. Provides enrichment for animals.
7. Responds to customer complaints and/or concerns. Advises supervisor(s) of complaints and/or concerns not resolved.
8. Maintains animal supplies as needed.
9. Trains new seasonal employees.
10. Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
11. Performs grounds care, custodial, light maintenance services for backup purposes as needed.
12. Inspects, cleans, and performs preventive maintenance or repair on equipment used.
13. Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
14. Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.
15. Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
· Work is performed daily both in and outdoors under all weather conditions and includes exposure to inclement weather, noise, vibrations, airborne materials, chemicals and live animals.
- Work is generally in a moderately noisy setting (e.g. business office, light traffic).
