Description :

The Panel tester is to make sure electrical panels are functional without wiring errors or functionality errors before the electrical panel is cleared to leave the facility. Testers are required to go over the wiring of each component and make sure errors are corrected. Power up the electrical enclosure, make sure there is basic functionality of safety circuits, do initial program setup, make sure the program, that is given to the tester by the control engineers, is properly functioning, and set up communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Test wiring and assembly operations on a diversified line of controls, etc. for all types of water pumping stations and component sub-assemblies, involving the installation and connection of precise and intricate apparatus and fairly complex circuits.

  • Reviews layout and installation of work having variations in standard procedures when required. Test all types of controls and apparatus.
  • Cut, form, and connect wiring in accordance with specifications utilizing available space for best workmanship and results using squares, levels, hand and power tools.
  • Instruct, assign, and check work of assemblers of lower classifications and helpers.
  • May assist with or perform testing operations on units and completed assemblies; calibrate and regulate units to meet load capacities and operating assignments.
  • Work from wiring diagrams, specifications, and job layouts; use a variety of electrical testing and gauging devices and equipment.
  • Assignments are given process supervision and check; work is subject to inspection and test.
  • Complete all work or job-related documents and measurements.
  • Provide input on product and process improvements, as well as corrections to drawings, specifications, or bill of materials.
  • Must follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Requirements :

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

    Education and / or Experience

  • Required education generally equivalent to a High School Diploma
  • Requires 1-3 years of testing experience
  • The basic use of electrical tools, crimpers, wire strippers, power tools, hole punches, wireway cutters and din rail cutters.
  • The ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, know basic knowledge of industrial controls, motor circuits, and communication circuits.
  • Able to understand the differences between high and low voltage and how to safely work around live voltage.
  • The ability to understand panel layout and the flow of control wiring and high voltage wiring.
  • Basic use of a voltage meter.
  • Basic skills with computers, knowledge in Outlook, Teams Messenger, Excel, Word, and Adobe Reader Requires good oral and written communication skills to interact with and provide work direction to other employees
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and routings
  • Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee will frequently stand or walk, occasionally talk and listen, and move from place to place. He / she will frequently use hands to handle or touch. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment

    The work environment characteristics for this position are in an industrial setting where all policies regarding safety have to be followed. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.     The phrases “occasionally”, “regularly”, and “frequently” corresponds to the following definitions : “Occasionally” means up to 1 / 3 of working time, “regularly” means between 1 / 3 and 2 / 3 of working time, and “frequently” means 2 / 3 and more of working time.
