Description :
The robotic weld set-up technician is responsible to fit, align, weld and fabricate large, heavy structures to strict quality requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications and job instructions.
- Make standard layouts using templates where available or layout with protractors and azimuth under direction.
- Operational sequences are generally given or of such a nature as to be self-evident.
- Fit, align, tack weld and finish weld units, parts, components, etc. in accordance with specifications using both hard wire and flux core wire to 6G requirements including both vertical bottom-up and top-down. The components range in size but are routinely several hundred pounds. These components must be manipulated and aligned with lifting devices. Review and interpret drawings, specifications and job instructions. Approval check of supervisor for any changes or adjustments.
- May use jigs and holding fixtures where available to locate and position pieces and materials.
- Instructions are given on deviations from standard practices.
- May perform more complex fitting under direction.
- Use rule, templates and fixed gauges.
- Work is subject to process and final inspection.
- Consistently completes work ahead of schedule, with reduced hours and improved quality.
- Complete all work or job-related documents and measurements.
- Provide input on product and process improvements, as well as corrections to drawings, specifications, or bill of materials.
- Work cooperatively with peers and leaders, creating an environment of teamwork.
- Maintain a neat, clean and safe work area. All production material and tools should be organized and clearly labeled.
- Installation and setup of work pieces within the robotic welding cell.
- Learn basic robotic functions to allow part manipulation for tack and finish weld functions within the robotic welding cell. Some parts may need to be touched up or hand welded due to the lack of robot reachability within / around the designed component or structure.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee will frequently stand or walk, occasionally talk and listen, and move from place to place. He / she will frequently use hands to finger, handle or touch. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics for this position are in an industrial setting where all policies regarding safety have to be followed. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
