WATG is hiring a Technical Detailer in Architecture for our office in Los Angeles, CA.
ROLE
The Technical Detailer translates the initial design concepts created by architects into detailed construction drawings, focusing on precise specifications of building components, materials, and connections. The Technical Detailer ensures contractors can construct the design accurately by providing comprehensive technical details and complying with building codes and regulations. The position acts as the bridge between design and construction through detailed plans and sections.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Detailed Drawing Production
- Using BIM software, creates precise and comprehensive construction drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, and details for all building elements and structural components
Code Compliance
- Analyzes building codes and regulations to ensure all design details adhere to local standards
Material Specifications
- Specifies the exact types and sizes of building materials needed for construction, including finishes, insulation, and structural elements
Coordination with Other Disciplines
- Collaborates with structural engineers, MEP engineers, and other design team members to coordinate details and ensure compatibility between different systems
Technical Analysis
- Evaluates design feasibility, identifies potential construction challenges, and proposes solutions to enable efficient building construction
Construction Documentation
- Prepares detailed construction documents, including schedules, specifications, and shop drawings for contractors to follow
Quality Control
- Reviews drawings for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project standards before final release
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10 years of technical experience in small to mid-size architectural projects
- Advanced BIM software expertise to create detailed models, including Revit, Navisworks, and CAD
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems
- In-depth technical knowledge of building codes and regulations
- High level of precision and accuracy when creating drawings and specifications
- Ability to communicate design intent and technical details to architects, engineers, and contractors
- Problem-solving capability to identify and resolve technical issues during the detailing process
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment on several projects simultaneously with multiple deadlines
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
