Watson Chapel School District Science Teacher The Watson Chapel Board of Education announces possible openings for a Science Teacher Start Date: August 2025 Work Schedule: 190 Day Application must be made electronically through Watson Chapel School District website The Superintendent reserves the right to either keep the position open until suitable applicants are found or to cancel and repost the position with such changes as may be deemed appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Science teaching License, Subject Specific Endorsement or enrolled in Alternative Program leading to license for this position issued by Arkansas Department of Education Must satisfactorily complete Bureau of Criminal Investigation background check. Desired: Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations. Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities. Ability to prepare lesson plans, tests, and instructional materials for classroom activities. Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action to parents. Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job. POSITION DESCRIPTION Motivates each pupil to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles, and skills in scientific methods of problem solving; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in scientific fields Works to develop in each pupil an awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology, or science problems to secondary pupils, utilizing core curriculum and other appropriate learning activities approved by the Board of Education. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Plans a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimal learning. Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids. Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects/experiments are being worked on concurrently. Instructs pupils in proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, equipment, and plant and animal life. Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, and productive environment during class sessions, laboratory sessions, and field trips. Evaluates each pupil's growth in knowledge, skills, and scientific attitudes in course being taught. Selects and requests books, instructional aids, science equipment, chemicals, and supplies , and maintains inventory records as required. Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. Cooperates with the school administration in providing science displays and programs for the school and community, and in sponsoring science activities. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
