Job Summary:
The Structural Steel Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs and resources required for structural steel projects. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of structural steel construction processes, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, clients, and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Estimation:
a. Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel projects.
b. Calculate material quantities, labor costs, and subcontractor expenses to develop accurate bid proposals.
c. Utilize software tools and estimation programs to enhance accuracy and efficiency in cost estimation.
2. Bid Preparation:
a. Prepare and submit competitive bids to clients and stakeholders based on thorough analysis of project documents.
b. Collaborate with project managers and field personnel to gather insights and validate estimates for accuracy.
c. Ensure all bid submissions meet client requirements and deadlines.
3. Market Research:
a. Stay updated on market trends, material costs, and labor rates to provide competitive pricing.
b. Conduct research on potential suppliers and subcontractors to evaluate pricing and availability.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
a. Communicate with architects, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements and address any queries related to estimates.
b. Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a comprehensive understanding of project scope and challenges.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
a. Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of all estimates, bid submissions, and project correspondence.
b. Generate reports and presentations to communicate estimation results to management and stakeholders.
6. Project Support:
a. Assist project managers during the execution of projects by providing clarification on estimates and budget management.
b. Monitor project progress and costs to ensure alignment with the original estimates, making adjustments as necessary.
7. Continuous Improvement:
a. Contribute to the development and improvement of estimating processes and procedures.
b. Provide feedback and suggestions based on lessons learned from completed projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience as an estimator in the structural steel industry preferred.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
