The Director of Nursing (DON) assumes full-time administrative and clinical authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility.
Job Duties:
- Manages employees in the provision of care and services according to professional standards of nursing practice
- Develops and maintains nursing policies and procedures that reflects nursing standards and is consistent with current laws and regulations
- In collaboration with Nursing Home Administrator, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to ensure each resident attains or maintains the highest practicable physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being
- Makes daily rounds on unit to supervise, observe, examine, and interview residents to evaluate staffing needs, monitor regulatory compliance, and to achieve the optimal care environment.
- Reviews 24-hr report from every unit daily to ensure timely, effective responses
- Communicates directly with residents, families, medical staff, nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, and Department Heads to coordinate care and services, improve organization and implementation of plants of care, and to maintain quality of care of residents
- Establishes and implements infection control program. Reviews infection control surveillance reports.
- Develops staffing plans
- Ensures 24-hr availability as nursing administration resource by providing on-call and telephone access, or designating alternative nursing staff member to do so
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Baccalaureate degree preferred.
- Current, active license as Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania
- Active CPR Certification Required
- 2 Years Experience in Long-Term Care Required
- 1 Year Experience in Nursing Service Administration or Comparable Management Experience Preferred
