- Assists in the preparation of preliminary budgets for the purpose of recommending new and replacement equipment purchases and expenditures.
- Assists with inventory planning and control for the purpose of promoting efficient practices.
- Conduct meetings to provide training and supervision for employees as needed for the purpose of disseminating information to custodians that would be an effective use of district systems, programs and equipment and any new time management system to be utilized for the purpose of promoting efficient practices.
- Develops work schedules and coordinates workloads for custodial and maintenance employees using the work order system for the purpose of ensuring efficient services.
- Coordinate, plan, organize, schedule and supervise custodial operations to prepare for facility events.
- Ensures that administrative records and reports regarding personnel are accurate and current by reviewing employee time cards and address time card infractions as needed.
- Evaluates custodial and maintenance employees by writing performance evaluations, documents discipline issues and participates in the disciplinary process to enforce departmental policies and procedures.
- Receives, investigates, responds, and/or resolves complaints regarding custodial and maintenance services
- Monitors and inspects custodial and maintenance work for the purpose of ensuring adherence to established district standards and addressing deficiencies as needed.
- Works cooperatively with administration, other staff and custodial staff in evaluating site needs, developing custodial cleaning schedules and recommending equipment and supply needs for the purpose of providing efficient services.
- Monitors safe working practices and safety programs for the purpose of ensuring efficient practices and promoting proper working habits.
- Reports safety hazards and repairs needed to appropriate personnel for the purpose of ensuring safe facilities.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of personnel for the purpose of making recommendations for hiring quality staff.
- Researches and tests new custodial methods, supplies and equipment for the purpose of improving custodial services.
- Assists with ensuring that specified contract services are being provided by the contractor by inspecting the work performed and advising the district Construction Manager when shortcomings or other deficiencies are noted.
- May serve as contact person for the public and for other departments regarding custodial and maintenance services.
- Communicate with staff, vendors, and administrators in person or in writing by preparing and completing a variety of forms, reports, memos and emails.
- Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- High School diploma; supplemented with five (5) years of progressive experience in a supervisory capacity for custodial and general maintenance operations.
- Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License. Ability and willingness to continue Education in custodial and maintenance management services.
- Ability to obtain a Certified Pool Operator's License.
- Familiarity with computer systems used within the district for the purpose of efficiency.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral manner.
- Capacity to mediate conflict between employees in the department as well as others with whom they interact.
- Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials, equipment, tools and basic practices of general building maintenance work.
- Excellent customer service experience is required.

Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position works directly with the Assistant Director of Operations under the supervision of the Director of Operations while working in cooperation with principals and other administrative staff. The essential functions of the job include assigning, supervising and coordinating activities and tasks to Intermediate Custodial staff.
