What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Public Health Nurse LTE position at Waupaca County?
As a function of the Waupaca County Department of Public Health, this position is responsible for providing professional public health nursing services to residents of Waupaca County.
Work includes:
- communicable disease investigation and case management,
- maternal and child health home visiting,
- chronic disease and injury prevention interactions,
- community health education, and,
- clinical based work including but not limited to immunizations, sexually transmitted disease screening, tuberculosis case management, and chronic disease screenings.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Public Health Nurse Supervisor.
The part-time Public Health Nurse position works up to 20 hours per week. The term for this position is expected to run through at least 2027.
Responsible for communicable disease follow-up and intervention including the review of case reports, interpretation of lab results and testing, and any necessary follow-up with clients regarding prevention and control of illness.
Conducts and participates in epidemiological investigations and implements control measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases according to prescribed protocols.
Provides nursing services in a clinic setting including, but not limited to, administering immunizations, performing examinations, providing reproductive health education and related services.
Responsible for lead poisoning case management and follow-up.
Performs home and/or facility visitation as necessary.
Promotes health and provides health education in areas including communicable disease, chronic disease and injury prevention, maternal child health, and access and linkage to care.
Facilitates client access to the health care system, including referrals to community resources and support.
Functions as a public health resource on various public health issues and programs by providing information and guidance to health care providers, schools, community groups, and other health and human service-related agencies.
Provides information to management for the development and operation of public health programs.
Participates in surveys, studies, surveillance, and data collection on various public health issues.
Performs data entry into electronic records and other databases, data searches, reporting, and other functions using various computer systems.
Participates in on-call phone rotation for afterhours emergencies.
Participates in emergency preparedness exercises.
Participates and serves on various committees as assigned.
Carries out the mission and vision of DPH.
PERIPHERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Available for public health emergencies as necessary.
Available for occasional after-hours emergency on-call phone rotation.
Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Supervisor or Public Health Officer.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN).
EXPERIENCE: One year of responsible experience in a general public health nursing program.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Current certification as a registered professional nurse licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin.
CPR certified
Knowledge of maternal, child and reproductive health, immunization practices, chronic disease and injury prevention, communicable disease, and general public health epidemiology.
Current knowledge of public health and nursing practices, principles, concepts and skills.
Considerable knowledge of the laws regulating the confidentiality of client information.
Working knowledge of computerized department program software including electronic health record, internet access and database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
Ability to make a comprehensive assessment of the health status of clients and families.
Ability to keep accurate and comprehensive records and make reports.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to maintain agency confidentiality.
Ability to respond to a public health outbreak or an emergency government public health disaster situation.
Ability to work in an enclosed environment wearing personal protective equipment.
Ability to lift 30 lbs.
